The Bombed Out Church - Community Engagement
Celebrating Lunar New Year 2025, Focal Studios once again brought St Luke’s Bombed Out Church to life with an unforgettable immersive projection mapped experience. This interactive journey blended mythology, nature, and local culture in a captivating video-game-inspired narrative.
Through collaboration with Pagoda Arts, we watched the cosmos birthed and evolved, as celestial pillars repaired, and harmony was restored by the goddess Nüwa. Journeying through a vibrant mountain landscape, where ecological balance was unlocked through gameplay, we witnessed a magnificent transformation as a jade snake became a dragon, spiralling through Liverpool’s iconic landmarks, joining a festive parade, and bestowing prosperity upon the city.
Working with local creatives Sam Gee (Animation and Design) and Amber Hooton | Polybrow (Music Composition and Sound Design) we combined forces to craft an immersive sonic and visual experience that would transport audiences across the globe to a world of wonder and magic. With a shared passion for innovation and storytelling, our creative collaboration resulted in a truly breathtaking display that pushed the boundaries of what's possible in outdoor digital art.
Building on the success of our ‘The Boy and the Pearl’ display for Lunar New Year 2024 and staying true to our commitment to harness creativity for positive change, we were excited to work alongside St Luke’s to deliver a collaboration with over 30 local schools and community members to create a stunning Lunar Wildflower Garden, inspired by those native to East & South East Asia made using recycled bottles.
Experience the Lunar New Year like never before! This year, we pushed the boundaries of celebration with a spectacular projection mapped experience, transforming St Luke’s Bombed Out Church into a vibrant canvas illuminated by a staggering 95,000 lumens of light.
To achieve this breathtaking effect, we're utilised not one, but three state-of-the-art projectors. Two 35k lumens Panasonic projectors from AtoV, combined with our brand new 25k lumens Epson UK projector, creating a truly immersive experience that left spectators in awe. The sheer scale and brilliance of this display truly made it a must-see event for anyone looking to ring in the Lunar New Year in style.
